Ways That Seem Right!!!

Things in our world are not always what they seem to be. The book of Proverbs is a book that can give us great wisdom in practical day to day activities. One of the things that Proverbs does warn us about is our paths. We can be deceived into believing we are going down a right path and yet be heading toward the opposite direction from God's will.

"There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death." Proverbs 16:25

As people, we do not naturally seek God or pursue righteousness (Romans 3:10-18). It is only as the Spirit awakens our hearts to the Person of Christ that we are able to desire God's will for our life. If we make decisions apart from the guidance of the Spirit of God, we will be like a ship trying to sail without a compass. Most of us will do what makes the most sense, based on our own wisdom, even if it is something God has called us to do. He tells us to do this or that, and we say ok, and then proceed in our own wisdom. This can be dangerous as what looks attractive may actually lead us to sin, ultimately destroying what is precious to us, because our most profound human thinking is foolishness to God. (See 1 Corinthians 1:18-20). Only God knows the way that leads to life, and He wants to lead us to walk in it.

We must not assume that every opportunity that presents itself to us is from God. Scripture teaches us that even Satan will disguise himself as an "angel of light", and his invitations will seem to be in our best interest, but they are not. His way leads only to death. It could be spiritual death, or physical death. If we trust in God's Word, it will be like a light to our path, guiding us in the ways of righteousness.

It can be perilous to follow a path that seems right without first consulting the Holy Spirit for guidance. Take the time to seek the Holy Spirit's direction when you face decisions. Through prayer and fasting, the study of God's Word, and listening to Him. He knows the full ramifications of our choices. The Holy Spirit will assist us to understand truth and experience abundant life. We need to trust Him as He leads us!

May God richly bless you today!! H Trent!

Thinking About Calling Down Fire!?!

James and John were refered to as "the Sons of Thunder" in the Bible. When they discovered a Samaritan village that would not receive Jesus, they were fully prepared to call down fire to consume the entire community. "And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, "Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?" Luke 9:54. Maybe they felt that through such a show of power, the gospel message might be enhanced. The two brothers were willing to sacrifice the lives of the village in order to further the cause of the gospel. However, Jesus rebuked them! Later, the apostles heard that Samaria had responded to the gospel. Guess who was commissioned to go and help them receive the Holy Spirit? None other but Peter and John! It was God's purpose that the people not be destroyed but saved! God chose not to rain down fire on the village, but to shower it with His Holy Spirit! I wonder what w...

Sermon For Sunday!!!

Once again it is Sunday! I am posting a sermon I preached, hoping that in anyway, it would speak to those of you who are following these posts. May God be with you as you continue on your walk with Him. And, as always, may God richly bless you today!! H Trent! “The Test for False Prophets.” Scripture: 2 Peter 2. Introduction: You know, there are a lot of things that we see and hear these days on our radios and through our televisions, even from those around us. From the programs we watch and listen to, like reality shows, the news, even movies. It can sometimes be difficult for us to determine if what we are filling ourselves up with contains any truth or not. Sadly this is also the same theme for those of us in the church. I mean, how do we know what is being taught to us is the truth, and how do we know that the one's doing the teaching are themselves, true? Pretty big question isn’t it? We need ministers that live according to the Word that they are entrusted to teaching. We ...

We Are Royal Priests!!!

If you are a Christian, you are a priest, chosen by God. As members of the royal priesthood we have constant access to the King. If there is ever a need in our life, we don't have to find an intermediary or enlist another priest in order to gain a hearing from the King. Our position as royal priests allows us direct access. This privilege describes our position as a priest. "But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light." 1 Peter 2:9. We need to also understand that priests also have a function. It is the responsibility of a priest to work within a priesthood. Scripture does not promote the practice of individual priests, each with a separate ministry. Priests are supposed to function together. (Lev. 9:1). An unbiblical sense of individualism can isolate us from functioning within God's royal priesthood as He intend...
