As a minister, one of the things that I have learned is that I can talk and preach ,and talk some more, but there comes a time when I can't talk about the Christian pilgrimage anymore. People must actually set out on the journey to see and know and understand what I am talking about. We can spend many hours debating and discussing issues related to the Christian life, but it means little if people do not actually step out and follow Christ!
"They said to Him, "Rabbi...where are you staying?" He said to them, "Come and see." They came and saw where He was staying, and remained with Him that day." John 1:38b-39.
For generations the coming of the Messiah had been foretold and anticipated by the nation of Israel. No topic started discussions more among Jews than the nature and work of the Messiah. Andrew had listened to John the Baptist and had heard of the coming Messiah. Now, he was suddenly face to face with the One he yearned to see! Andrew's mind must have been filled with questions he wanted to ask, but, instead of entering into a theological discussion with Andrew, Jesus turned and began walking. Andrew would not have his questions answered by discussion only, but by walking with Jesus.
I would like to say that I believe and teach that Christianity is not a set of teachings to understand, but it is a Person to follow! Take Andrew for instance, as he walked with our Lord, he watched Jesus heal the sick, teach God's wisdom, and demonstrate God's power. Here's the point, not only did Andrew learn about God, he experienced God!
Friends, moments are going to come when we will stand at a crossroads with our Lord. We will have a hundred questions that we will want to ask. But, think on this, rather than answering our questions one by one, Jesus may say to us, "Put on your walking shoes, step out on the road, and follow Me." The question we will need to answer at that moment will be, do I? Do I want to be like Andrew and Peter and John and all the others who have gone on before me, or do I want to be like the rich young man that went away sad? I pray that we will answer the right answer, because, as we walk daily with Jesus, He will answer our questions, and we will discover far more than we ever knew to ask. I put my walking shoes on, will you?
May God richly bless you today!! H Trent!
