Faithfulness in Prayer!!!

Many times I hear Christians complain that God hasn't answered their prayers. Is He listening to me? Maybe I am not praying correctly? I can't understand what is wrong. Such complaining I believe is saddening. The Bible tells us that God answers all prayers. The answer: Yes, no, or wait!

"Now there was one, Anna...a widow of about eighty-four years, who did not depart from the temple, but served God with fasting and prayers night and day." Luke 2:36-37.

Faithfulness to God through prayer is important. Our faithfulness allows God to reveal greater insight to us than to the less faithful. If you have been following this week, a key note that keeps coming up is spending time with God in prayer. I'm talking about "real" time. Give God the opportunity to speak back to you! Did you know that faithfulness brings opportunities to us that are not given to the unfaithful? I believe that God takes pleasure in answering prayers that come from a faithful heart.

Let's look at Anna for a moment. She had been a widow for many years. In her day, a widow had little status in society and was virtually helpless on her own. But Anna spent her time, day and night, fasting and praying in the temple. And what was she praying for? The Bible tells us she yearned to see the Messiah. If you study the Scriptures, you would notice that God chose few people to encounter the Savior when He was born, revealing His Son only to those whose hearts were faithful and pure. And Anna was one of those few. Jesus would later say to His followers, "Blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear...it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given." (Matthew 13:16, 11). I think the "them" Jesus was referring to was the unfaithful.

Anna continued faithfully in prayer until her prayer was answered. The answer to her prayers did not come immediately, but she kept on praying. In fact, the answer came near the end of her life, but God honored her faithfulness. She got to see the Savior! God's redemptive plan to send the Messiah included answering the prayers of a humble widow. What do we think of that?

Faithful praying may mean a lifetime of waiting to receive an answer. I think God is looking for intercessors who are willing to continue to pray and to believe until they see God's answer. Remember, just because you think God hasn't answered you yet, doesn't mean He hasn't heard you, or isn't going to answer: "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us--whatever we ask--we know that we have what we asked of Him." 1 John 5:14-15.

May God richly bless you today!! H Trent!

We Are Royal Priests!!!

If you are a Christian, you are a priest, chosen by God. As members of the royal priesthood we have constant access to the King. If there is ever a need in our life, we don't have to find an intermediary or enlist another priest in order to gain a hearing from the King. Our position as royal priests allows us direct access. This privilege describes our position as a priest. "But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light." 1 Peter 2:9. We need to also understand that priests also have a function. It is the responsibility of a priest to work within a priesthood. Scripture does not promote the practice of individual priests, each with a separate ministry. Priests are supposed to function together. (Lev. 9:1). An unbiblical sense of individualism can isolate us from functioning within God's royal priesthood as He intend...

Follow Christ!!!

Have you ever taken anything for granted? If you are like the rest of us, your answer will be yes. There are a lot of things that we end up taking for granted, especially in our relationships. One of the things we can take for granted is God's presence in our lives. We might even assume that because Jesus said He would be with us always, He will follow us wherever we go. However, we need to realize that Jesus does not follow us; we are to follow Him. "Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me." Matthew 16:24 We don't invite God to join us in our activity. He invites us to become involved in His activity. Jesus said: "You did not choose Me, but I chose you." (John 15:16). Following Jesus requires absolute obedience. He does not seek our counsel about which direction we think is best to go. God already knows what is best without ever having to consult ...

Thinking About Calling Down Fire!?!

James and John were refered to as "the Sons of Thunder" in the Bible. When they discovered a Samaritan village that would not receive Jesus, they were fully prepared to call down fire to consume the entire community. "And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, "Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?" Luke 9:54. Maybe they felt that through such a show of power, the gospel message might be enhanced. The two brothers were willing to sacrifice the lives of the village in order to further the cause of the gospel. However, Jesus rebuked them! Later, the apostles heard that Samaria had responded to the gospel. Guess who was commissioned to go and help them receive the Holy Spirit? None other but Peter and John! It was God's purpose that the people not be destroyed but saved! God chose not to rain down fire on the village, but to shower it with His Holy Spirit! I wonder what w...
