Have you ever tried to do something you knew was impossible? Many of us think that getting to know God personally is impossible. You know, I think the disciples might have thought so too. There are many instances recorded in Scripture where God asked someone do something that, at the time seemed impossible. Consider this episode take from the Book of Matthew:
"As evening approached, the disciples came to Him and said, "This is a remote place, and it's already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food." Jesus replied, "They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat." Matthew 14:15-16.
Now, Jesus asked His disciples to do something that clearly was impossible. There were five thousand men, along with their families, and they were famished. Our passage goes on to say that they were only able to come up with five loaves of bread and two small fish--obviously not enough to feed a multitude. And for the disciples to go and buy any food, the cost of food for even a portion of the crowd would have far exceeded the disciples small budget. I think at the time it must have seemed absurd to the disciples that Jesus would ask them to distribute the paltry amount of food to the massive crowd. But, that is exactly what Jesus asked them to do. Because Jesus had given the command, the disciples obeyed and then they witnessed an incredible miracle.
What can we, today, learn from this incredible manifestation of God's grace? Well, I believe that Christ will lead us into many situations in our life that will seem impossible, but we must try not to avoid them. We need to stay in the middle of them, because I believe that this is where we will experience God! The key difference between what appears to be impossible to us and what is actually possible, is a word from our Master. Faith accepts His divine command and steps out in a direction that only God can complete! If you only attempt things that you know are possible with the visible resources you possess, those around you will not see God at work. You will be the only one who receives the credit for a job well done, but God will have no part in it.
Might I ask that you take inventory of your life, and the decisions you are presently facing? Have you received a word from the Master that awaits your next step of faith? If you will proceed with what He has told you, no matter how incredible it might seem, you will experience the joy of seeing your Lord perform a miracle, and so will those around you. Believe on God, His Word guarantees it!
May God richly bless you today!! H Trent!
