The Penetrating Word of God!!!

We have been looking at God's Word for the last two times and also today. I believe that speaking on, teaching on, or learning about God's Word is very relevant to society today as I think that many of us are suffering from spiritual starvation. A lack of knowledge of the Word of God!

When you open the Word, does it every cause you discomfort? When you read the Bible does what you read make you uneasy? Do you find that when you listen to sermons, the Scripture seems aimed directly at you? Well friends, I would like to say that it is in these moments that you are experiencing the reality that the Word of God is alive and can read your thoughts and judge your intentions.

"For the Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." Hebrews 4:12

When God's Word speaks to you it is always for a purpose. God knows your heart and knows what you need to do to bring your life into conformity to Christ. If you have a problem with sinful talk, the word that comes to you will address your tongue. If you are struggling to forgive, God's Word will confront you with His standard for forgiveness. If pride has a stronghold in your life, God's Word will speak to you about humility. Whatever problem, situation, or sin that needs addressing in your life, you will find that you are confronted by God's Word on the matter.

Many people do not like to be confronted with their problems or their sin. One way that we can escape the discomfort of conviction is to avoid hearing God speak to you. We may neglect reading our Bible and also stay away from places where it is taught. We might even avoid the people we know that will uphold the truths of Scripture. Why is this we might ask? I would like to say that God's Word was not given to us to make us "feel rosie all over." God gave us His Word to convict us! To show us that we need a Savior! To teach us that He loves us and wants to be in relationship with us, but to do that we need to get right with Him. How do you learn to do something for your life? Someone teaches you, instructs you. If you find you are avoiding God's Word because something in your life keeps getting brought up, I have bad news for you!! God is going to keep bringing it up through His Word, through others, and through prayer until you decide to deal with it! He is not going any further with you until you deal with the sin or problem in your life.

The best response I believe is this, pray to God as the psalmist did: "Search me, O God, and know my heart." Psalm 139:23. Regularly allow the Word of God to wash over you and find any sin or impurity (Ephesians 5:26). Always make the connection between your life and what God is saying to you through His Word. Make a habit of taking every word from God seriously, knowing and believing that it is able to judge your heart and mind. And then allow God to help you deal with whatever He brings up by doing what He says. Allow Him to cleanse you, renew you and strenghten you by the power and truth of His Word!

May God richly bless you today!! H Trent!

Thinking About Calling Down Fire!?!

James and John were refered to as "the Sons of Thunder" in the Bible. When they discovered a Samaritan village that would not receive Jesus, they were fully prepared to call down fire to consume the entire community. "And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, "Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?" Luke 9:54. Maybe they felt that through such a show of power, the gospel message might be enhanced. The two brothers were willing to sacrifice the lives of the village in order to further the cause of the gospel. However, Jesus rebuked them! Later, the apostles heard that Samaria had responded to the gospel. Guess who was commissioned to go and help them receive the Holy Spirit? None other but Peter and John! It was God's purpose that the people not be destroyed but saved! God chose not to rain down fire on the village, but to shower it with His Holy Spirit! I wonder what w

On Earth as it is in Heaven!

As believers, I know that we question the situations and culture that we find ourselves in during these times.  We wonder what has happened to our world and why are things happening as they are.  I also hear fellow brothers and sisters in Christ complaining that something should be done, but they themselves do not want to get involved. Lastly, why aren't the miracles and power of God not being manifest during our lifetime?  The answer my friends is that we have forgotten to Whom we belong and that the battle is always fought on our knees!  To many, this could be a passive way of stating that this is all that we can do, but I would like to say that we need a change of thinking and praying in order to start seeing the results that we so desperately desire!  I want us to really take a deep look at the Lord's Prayer: "In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.   Give us this

The Fruit of the Spirit!!

As one examines what the Scriptures teach about the fruits of the Spirit, you could be intimidated. "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law." Galatians 5:22-23. Working all nine of these traits into our life seems impossible, and it is. However, the moment we became Christians, the Holy Spirit began a divine work to produce Christ's character in us. Let me say this, regardless of who you are, the Spirit works from the same model, Jesus Christ. The Spirit looks to Christ in order to find the "blueprint" for your character. The Spirit will immedately begin helping you experience and practice this same love that Jesus had when He laid down His life for His friends. The same joy He experienced will be filled in you. The identical peace that guarded the heart of Jesus, even as He was being beaten and mocked, will be the peace that the Spirit
