Help Our Unbelief!!

After having a conversation last night with someone that rejects God, I started thinking that some of the things they were saying made since. It later startled me to realize that I wanted to double-check myself to make sure that I was on the right path. You see, many times in our walk with Christ people that are more intelligent that us will cross paths with us. And many times those individuals will be people that for whatever reason have chosen to reject God, Christ, the Bible, and that anyone that follows God is uneducated and needs to be attacked and hated. Most times these attacks can leave you weary of speaking about Christ or even cause you to start to doubt what you believe because they can make themselves appear to know all truth. As I meditated on the conversation and flipped through God's Word I came to the realization that faith in God does not come from ignorance. Faith is based on what we know. And we can only get what we know about God, from God Himself by going to Him and asking.

"Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, 'Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!'" Mark 9:24

Many times we will struggle with what we believe because of attacks or pressure that we recieve from others around us. I have learned that many of the people that attack Christians do so because of something that has happened in thier life that they blame God for letting happen to them, and they take their anger out on Christians, claim to hate God and do everything they can to show that, but all the while they are hurting deep inside from lack of understanding and belief. Many Christians will brush past these people who are hurting with things like, "Just ask God and he will let you know." and other shallow phrases, all the time missing the fact that it is at this point they are missing an opportunity to show God in caring for the one who is hurting. And the person hurting is left feeling as though God dosen't care about them because He didn't do what they wanted.

It is in times like this when you are doubting or struggling to believe because of pressure from the world around you that you do not want to avoid Christ or be ashamed of your struggle. You will never increase your faith by not going to Jesus! Rather, Jesus wants to help you with your unbelief. Jesus understands what is going on in our lives and knows that at times we will be attacked for or faith and belief in Him:

"If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated Me first. If you belonged t0 the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you." John 15:18-19.

Jesus knows that we will be attacked for our faith because we belong to Him and not to the world. In times like this, go to Him! Let Him know that you are weak and struggling with unbelief. He can not only meet your need, but He will also give you faith to trust Him to provide for you that which you need. Jesus has never failed those who truly call on Him. Stand on the promises of God! Go to Him and allow Him to convince you of His ability to meet every need and strengthen us in every weakness we will ever face, even the attacks that cause us unbelief. Remember, He wants us to turn to Him and not to ourselves.

May God richly bless you today!!! H Trent.

Thinking About Calling Down Fire!?!

James and John were refered to as "the Sons of Thunder" in the Bible. When they discovered a Samaritan village that would not receive Jesus, they were fully prepared to call down fire to consume the entire community. "And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, "Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?" Luke 9:54. Maybe they felt that through such a show of power, the gospel message might be enhanced. The two brothers were willing to sacrifice the lives of the village in order to further the cause of the gospel. However, Jesus rebuked them! Later, the apostles heard that Samaria had responded to the gospel. Guess who was commissioned to go and help them receive the Holy Spirit? None other but Peter and John! It was God's purpose that the people not be destroyed but saved! God chose not to rain down fire on the village, but to shower it with His Holy Spirit! I wonder what w

It Is Our Life!!!

One of the things that I find puzzling and troubling today is that so many of us Christians try to live the Christian life in this world today, without reading our Bibles! Many of us will occasionally give it a sporadic look, seeking a pithy thought to help us get through our day. This is sad. The Word of God is not merely a source of helpful suggestions, preventative warnings, or even inspirational thoughts . The Word of God is life itself! But, oh how foolish that many of us are, having the words of life right at our fingertips, and still not bothering to make time to sit down and go through it's pages. "For it is not a futile thing for you, because it is your life, and by this word you shall prolong your days in the land which you cross over the Jordan to possess." Deuteronomy 32:47. God gathered the nation of Israel at the edge of the Promised Land to review their pilgrimage with Him. They had just spent 40 years wandering the desert, on a journey that should have

Sermon For Sunday!!!

Once again it is Sunday! I am posting a sermon I preached, hoping that in anyway, it would speak to those of you who are following these posts. May God be with you as you continue on your walk with Him. And, as always, may God richly bless you today!! H Trent! “The Test for False Prophets.” Scripture: 2 Peter 2. Introduction: You know, there are a lot of things that we see and hear these days on our radios and through our televisions, even from those around us. From the programs we watch and listen to, like reality shows, the news, even movies. It can sometimes be difficult for us to determine if what we are filling ourselves up with contains any truth or not. Sadly this is also the same theme for those of us in the church. I mean, how do we know what is being taught to us is the truth, and how do we know that the one's doing the teaching are themselves, true? Pretty big question isn’t it? We need ministers that live according to the Word that they are entrusted to teaching. We
