Sit With The Lord!!!

David is referred to as "a man after God's own heart." But, this was not always so. There were things that David needed to learn and that he needed to grow in. David had to learn to trust in God. He had to grow in the power and strength of the Lord. Yet, how was he able to do this? The answer is found in 2 Samuel.

"Then King David went in and sat before the Lord and he said: "Who am I, O Sovereign Lord and what is my family, that You have brought me this far? And as if this were not enough in Your sight, O Sovereign Lord, You have also spoken about the future of the house of Your servant. Is this Your usual way of dealing with man, O Sovereign Lord?" 2 Samuel 7:18-19.

In order for David to learn, to grow, he needed to get to know God. David needed to find answers to all the things pertaining to his life as a man, husband, father, and king. He very well could have gone off on his own way seeking knowledge and power from others around him. He could have decided to use his own judgment and wisdom is the dealings with his house and nation. But, David did what many of us should be doing. David chose to sit before the Lord.

What does it mean to sit before the Lord? This means that we spend time alone with Him. In prayer and in study of His Word. In order to learn about the God we serve, we need to make time to be with Him. David inquired of the Lord for all things. David asked questions and waited for God to answer him. When we sit with the Lord, we need to be open to hear His voice. Are there any unconfessed sins in our life? Have we held bitterness or anger towards someone? If we have any of these things in our life, God will deal with these first before He deals with anything else.

We need to learn to spend time with God! David did not just grow up mighty in the Lord, he had to be melded and molded by God. The same needs to be done for us. We need to inquire of the Lord for all things in our lives as well. Don't be afraid to ask God the hard questions. God wants us to ask Him. God longs to teach us and strengthen us. God also wants us to listen to Him. David asked God many questions, but David also made time for God to answer him. As we spend time with Him we also need to feed our hunger on His Word. The Bible instructs us to meditate on His Word. We cannot grow, we cannot learn, we cannot trust without the life that is contained in God's Scriptures!

Friends, when was the last time you sat alone with God and talked with Him? When was the last time you asked questions of Him? When was the last time you were still and listened to Him? Getting alone before the Lord should be one of the most important things we do in our life. Jesus wants to be personal with all of us. The only way to be personal with Him is to make time for Him. Do you have any room in your time to sit before the Lord? God wants to make all of us men and women after His heart!

May God Richly Bless You Today!! H Trent!

We Are Royal Priests!!!

If you are a Christian, you are a priest, chosen by God. As members of the royal priesthood we have constant access to the King. If there is ever a need in our life, we don't have to find an intermediary or enlist another priest in order to gain a hearing from the King. Our position as royal priests allows us direct access. This privilege describes our position as a priest. "But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light." 1 Peter 2:9. We need to also understand that priests also have a function. It is the responsibility of a priest to work within a priesthood. Scripture does not promote the practice of individual priests, each with a separate ministry. Priests are supposed to function together. (Lev. 9:1). An unbiblical sense of individualism can isolate us from functioning within God's royal priesthood as He intend...

Thinking About Calling Down Fire!?!

James and John were refered to as "the Sons of Thunder" in the Bible. When they discovered a Samaritan village that would not receive Jesus, they were fully prepared to call down fire to consume the entire community. "And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, "Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?" Luke 9:54. Maybe they felt that through such a show of power, the gospel message might be enhanced. The two brothers were willing to sacrifice the lives of the village in order to further the cause of the gospel. However, Jesus rebuked them! Later, the apostles heard that Samaria had responded to the gospel. Guess who was commissioned to go and help them receive the Holy Spirit? None other but Peter and John! It was God's purpose that the people not be destroyed but saved! God chose not to rain down fire on the village, but to shower it with His Holy Spirit! I wonder what w...

To Give or Not To Give!

As a society in today's world, we are taught that money is everything.  We will spend 3/4 of our lives amassing money and things to make us comfortable for the last part of our lives. The Bible teaches us that, "Money is the root of all kinds of evil." 1 Timothy 6:10 NKJV.  It does not say that money it's self is evil, but that it can lead to evil. There is nothing wrong with having vast amounts of money, the question is, where is the heart in great fortune?  Where is the heart with little fortune? Today I want us to visit a passage of scripture that deals with fortune and where the heart is:   "Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! But you say, 'In what way have we robbed You?' In tithes and offerings.   You are cursed with a curse, For you have robbed Me, Even this whole nation.   Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this," Says the LORD of hosts, "If I will not open for you ...
