Making Excuses When God Calls!!!

It's amazing when I think about all the times that God has called someone to service, then they make an excuse about why they can't serve where God has called them. Throughout the pages of Scripture you will find this over and over again. Consider Gideon, God called him to lead his people against a nation that had been oppressing them for years. The Midianites were so oppressive that Scripture says that the Israelites left their homes and took to the hills. They started living in caves and strongholds. Whenever they planted crops, they were taken. Their livestock was taken. Everything they needed to survive was ripped from them by the Midianites and they cried out to God for help. God's answer was to call upon Gideon to lead the nation Israel against the Midianites. But, Gideon decided that he shouldn't be the one to do it.

"But Lord," Gideon asked, "how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family." Judges 6:15.

Gideon thought himself nothing. He was to weak and he was from a weak family. Or so he thought. God knew his potential even when Gideon didn't think he was capable. God saw the mighty warrior that was hidden behind years of oppression and fear. But Gideon was afraid to answer the call. He didn't think that he was capable of undertaking such a great task. He was full of questions and doubt. He did not trust that God was capable of empowering him to fulfill the task God required of him.

How much like Gideon are some of us? There are many things going on in society now that plague us and oppress us. And, like the Israelites, we cry out to God for help, for understanding, for relief. But what happens to us when the answer from God is to send us to complete a task? Like Gideon, we make excuses to keep from being placed in the front lines. We feel inadequate to the task. We are unsure, full of questions and doubts. Many of us wonder how will we be able to accomplish what God wants of us. What we forget is what Gideon forgot. God is God and God is with us. God's answer to Gideon was, "I will be with you, and you will strike down all the Midianites together." Judges 6:16.

God will never ask us to perform any task that He will not empower us to complete. Whether it be a ministry call, a call to witness, or a call to stand up, God will always give us whatever resources are required to complete the task God has assigned to us. The problem comes when we doubt or allow unbelief to creep into us. We will not be able to see the resources available to completing the task if we allow other things to turn our eyes off of God. God is faithful and true. Any time He has asked somebody to go, they were always successful, as long as they kept their focus on God!

Friends, if God has called you to do something for Him, instead of allowing doubt and fear to keep you from answering Him, trust that He is with you and He will give you everything you need to be victorious in the task at hand. Remember, He gave you the assignment, He won't let you fail at it!

May God Richly Bless You Today!! H Trent!

Thinking About Calling Down Fire!?!

James and John were refered to as "the Sons of Thunder" in the Bible. When they discovered a Samaritan village that would not receive Jesus, they were fully prepared to call down fire to consume the entire community. "And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, "Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?" Luke 9:54. Maybe they felt that through such a show of power, the gospel message might be enhanced. The two brothers were willing to sacrifice the lives of the village in order to further the cause of the gospel. However, Jesus rebuked them! Later, the apostles heard that Samaria had responded to the gospel. Guess who was commissioned to go and help them receive the Holy Spirit? None other but Peter and John! It was God's purpose that the people not be destroyed but saved! God chose not to rain down fire on the village, but to shower it with His Holy Spirit! I wonder what w...

It Is Our Life!!!

One of the things that I find puzzling and troubling today is that so many of us Christians try to live the Christian life in this world today, without reading our Bibles! Many of us will occasionally give it a sporadic look, seeking a pithy thought to help us get through our day. This is sad. The Word of God is not merely a source of helpful suggestions, preventative warnings, or even inspirational thoughts . The Word of God is life itself! But, oh how foolish that many of us are, having the words of life right at our fingertips, and still not bothering to make time to sit down and go through it's pages. "For it is not a futile thing for you, because it is your life, and by this word you shall prolong your days in the land which you cross over the Jordan to possess." Deuteronomy 32:47. God gathered the nation of Israel at the edge of the Promised Land to review their pilgrimage with Him. They had just spent 40 years wandering the desert, on a journey that should have...

Sermon For Sunday!!!

Once again it is Sunday! I am posting a sermon I preached, hoping that in anyway, it would speak to those of you who are following these posts. May God be with you as you continue on your walk with Him. And, as always, may God richly bless you today!! H Trent! “The Test for False Prophets.” Scripture: 2 Peter 2. Introduction: You know, there are a lot of things that we see and hear these days on our radios and through our televisions, even from those around us. From the programs we watch and listen to, like reality shows, the news, even movies. It can sometimes be difficult for us to determine if what we are filling ourselves up with contains any truth or not. Sadly this is also the same theme for those of us in the church. I mean, how do we know what is being taught to us is the truth, and how do we know that the one's doing the teaching are themselves, true? Pretty big question isn’t it? We need ministers that live according to the Word that they are entrusted to teaching. We ...
