What do you value most in your life? For most of us, we would probably blurt out the obvious, but for others we might have to think on the answer for a while. One fact remains however, that being what we value most is our treasure. Where we spend our time and money is our treasure. Whatever dominates our conversations is what we treasure. And a real good one is, what others know us for is a good indication of what our treasure is.
"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Luke 12:34
Most of us Christians are quick to claim that God is our first priority, but often our actions reveal that our treasure is not God but things of the world. It's interesting that some of us find it difficult to discuss our relationship with God with others around us, but we can easily chatter along about our family, friends, or hobbies. Some of us make excuses or find it impossible to rise a little earlier than usual in order to spend time with God, but will, at the crack of dawn, get up to pursue a hobby or an outing. Some of us find it difficult to give an offering to God, but will quickly spend lavishly on recreation or merchandise. Some of us boldly approach strangers to sell a product, but are painfully timid in telling others about the Savior. Some will give hundreds of hours to serve in volunteer organizations, but feel we have no time available to serve God.
Friends, the list can go on and on. The point is, if we are unsure of where our treasure is, we need to examine where we spend most of our time and money. Reflect on what it is we most enjoy thinking about and discussing with others. Ask our friends to tell us what they think is most important to us. Ask our children to list the things they think are most valuable to us. It might surprise us to know what others consider to be our treasure. Many of the problems in our lives could be resolved if we were aware of what our first love is, and what it should be. Make God our most important treasure, and our highest priority, and everything else will fall into its proper place!
May God richly bless you today!! H Trent!
