“The Messiah is Coming !!”

Scripture: Luke 12:35-40, Rev. 22:7

Introduction:
Hey!! Have you heard the news!?! There is someone coming for us!! Have you heard!?! Did you know that it is Jesus!?! Listen!!! Jesus is coming!! The Messiah is coming to get us!! Jesus is coming to take us to heaven and when we get there, there won’t be anymore crying or unhappiness. We will get to see our loved ones that have gone on before us. We will get to run and jump and play and most of all, we will be with Jesus!! For all eternity!! Listen!! Jesus is coming!! He’s coming to give us life with Him!! That's our message for today!! Aren't you excited!?! Well, turn in your Bible to Luke chapter 12 starting at verse 35 and let's get ready to start the excitement:

1. Are You Dressed for Service (v35-36).
It’s pretty sad when I get around Christians that seem to always be unhappy. We should be excited to know that Christ is coming for us. I can’t tell you how many defeated Christians I come into contact with on a daily basis. Well, maybe defeated is not the right description to use, but they seem defeated to me just in the way they speak and carry themselves. I also will say that I know that there are trials of various types and kinds that we all experience, and just maybe they are going through a trial when they experience me, but hear me for a moment. Jesus is saying that we should be “dressed” and ready for service. What does being dressed look like? Well, in (Eph.6:10-18) Paul tells us to put on the whole armor of God. To clothe us in His righteousness and in His glory. But I also think Jesus is asking us to examine our hearts and see where we are really at in relationship to Him. Are we obedient children, or do we turn from Him on an everyday basis? Are we ready to serve Him when He calls us too? Are we willing to do as Jesus did? We need to show love and compassion on a hurting world, but also to introduce to the world who Jesus is through the testimony of our lives. I believe that being dressed and ready for service means that we trust in and depend on God as revealed to us through the person of Jesus and through His Word. Keeping our lamps burning speaks to me as keep the light of God ever glowing in my life. We do this through prayer, reading and studying His word, meditating on His word, and through our service to others. Are you dressed and ready for service? Are you keeping your lamp burning?

2. Are You Watching for His Return (v37-38).
The next thing we need to ask ourselves is, are we watching for His return? Many of us forget that He is coming. Many of us live as if this is all there is. We have become lazy in our Christian living and in our thinking. (1 Thess. 4:16, 5:2). Jesus instructed even His disciples to prepare for His return. How much less should we? Scripture instructs us to keep our eyes on the clouds ever watching for His coming. Listen to (Matt. 25:2-13). Which ones are we? Are we like the ones that brought enough oil? Not only should we be watching with our eyes, but also with our hearts, and with our lives. We should be living our lives as if Jesus is coming right now, cause the truth is, His return is imminent, and could happen at any moment.

3. Are You Prepared to Receive Him (v40, Rev 22:7).
Lastly, are you prepared for Him? We await His return but are you prepared to receive Him? What does being prepared look like? Well, if you remember when I opened this message I was excited!! Are we excited the King is returning? If the return of Christ doesn’t stir an excitement or expectation in our hearts, we need to ask if we are really prepared. (2Pet. 3:14).

Conclusion:
Jesus is coming!! He is coming to take me and you with Him to live forever in His glory!! Why walk around in this life feeling defeated and pressed down when we have something so glorious to look forward too? And if you leave this world before He comes, He is there waiting to receive you!! Jesus should be our everything. We should live our lives focused on Him, then everything else will fall into it’s proper place. If we put Him first in all we do.

Thinking About Calling Down Fire!?!

James and John were refered to as "the Sons of Thunder" in the Bible. When they discovered a Samaritan village that would not receive Jesus, they were fully prepared to call down fire to consume the entire community. "And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, "Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?" Luke 9:54. Maybe they felt that through such a show of power, the gospel message might be enhanced. The two brothers were willing to sacrifice the lives of the village in order to further the cause of the gospel. However, Jesus rebuked them! Later, the apostles heard that Samaria had responded to the gospel. Guess who was commissioned to go and help them receive the Holy Spirit? None other but Peter and John! It was God's purpose that the people not be destroyed but saved! God chose not to rain down fire on the village, but to shower it with His Holy Spirit! I wonder what w

On Earth as it is in Heaven!

As believers, I know that we question the situations and culture that we find ourselves in during these times.  We wonder what has happened to our world and why are things happening as they are.  I also hear fellow brothers and sisters in Christ complaining that something should be done, but they themselves do not want to get involved. Lastly, why aren't the miracles and power of God not being manifest during our lifetime?  The answer my friends is that we have forgotten to Whom we belong and that the battle is always fought on our knees!  To many, this could be a passive way of stating that this is all that we can do, but I would like to say that we need a change of thinking and praying in order to start seeing the results that we so desperately desire!  I want us to really take a deep look at the Lord's Prayer: "In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.   Give us this

The Fruit of the Spirit!!

As one examines what the Scriptures teach about the fruits of the Spirit, you could be intimidated. "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law." Galatians 5:22-23. Working all nine of these traits into our life seems impossible, and it is. However, the moment we became Christians, the Holy Spirit began a divine work to produce Christ's character in us. Let me say this, regardless of who you are, the Spirit works from the same model, Jesus Christ. The Spirit looks to Christ in order to find the "blueprint" for your character. The Spirit will immedately begin helping you experience and practice this same love that Jesus had when He laid down His life for His friends. The same joy He experienced will be filled in you. The identical peace that guarded the heart of Jesus, even as He was being beaten and mocked, will be the peace that the Spirit
