Sunday Sermon!!!

Living as a Christian!
By: Pastor Harold Trent

Psalms 119:105-112

1. God’s Word is a Light to Your Life (vs. 105-106).

A. Revealing to us how we should live.
1. Luke 6:47 “I will show you what he is like who hears My Words
and puts them into practice.”

B. To Understand Him.
1. Proverbs 2:1-6 “My son, if you accept my words and store up
my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and
applying your heart to understanding, and if you call out for
insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it
as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you
will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge
of God. For the Lord gives wisdom, and from His mouth
come knowledge and understanding.”

C. To understand where He is taking you and why.
1. James 1:22 “Do not merely listen to the Word, and so deceive
Yourselves. Do what it says.”

2. Suffering as a Christian (vs. 107-109).

A. A committed Christian will sometimes experience:
1. Loss of friends

A. Jesus’ own disciples ran out on Him on not one but two
occasions.
1. John 6:66 “From this time many of His disciples turned
back and no longer followed Him.”
2. Matt 26:56 “But this has all taken place that the writtings
of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples
deserted Him and fled.”

2. Ridicule from family and co-workers

A. Luke 21:16 “You will be betrayed even by parents, brothers,
relatives and friends and they will put some of you to death.”
3. Persecution from strangers
A. Luke 21:17 “All men will hate you because of Me.”
1. Acts 20:30 “Even from your own number men will
arise and distort the truth in order to draw away
disciples after them.
B. There are those that will constantly try to trip you up
to see if you are real in your commitment to God.
1. Romans 12:17 “Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be
careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody.”
B. Being left alone can cause:
1. Feelings of Depression
A. 2 Tim 4:6 “For I am already being poured out like a drink
offering, and the time has come for my departure.”
2. Feelings of Rejection
A. 2 Tim 4:16 “At my first defense, no one came to my support,
but everyone deserted me.”
3. Death

3. Surrendering To God (vs. 110-112).
A. Acknowledge that you can’t do it without Him.
1. Be willing to learn and accept His instruction for your life.
A. Galatians 6:7-8 “Do not be deceived. God cannot be mocked.
A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his
sinful nature, from that nature will he reap destruction; the
one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap
eternal life.”
B. Acknowledge God in ALL circumstances.
1. Make the decision to put God first, no matter what the
consequences might be and then trust Him to guide you
through His Word.
A.1 Peter 3:15 .“But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord.
Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who
asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But
do this with gentleness and respect”
C. Remember your oath to Him and your identity in Him.
1. Guard your testimony.
A. Ecc 5:4-5 “When you make a vow to God, do not delay in
fulfilling it. He has no pleasure in fools; fulfill your vow.
It is better not to vow than to make a vow and not fulfill it.”

Thinking About Calling Down Fire!?!

James and John were refered to as "the Sons of Thunder" in the Bible. When they discovered a Samaritan village that would not receive Jesus, they were fully prepared to call down fire to consume the entire community. "And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, "Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?" Luke 9:54. Maybe they felt that through such a show of power, the gospel message might be enhanced. The two brothers were willing to sacrifice the lives of the village in order to further the cause of the gospel. However, Jesus rebuked them! Later, the apostles heard that Samaria had responded to the gospel. Guess who was commissioned to go and help them receive the Holy Spirit? None other but Peter and John! It was God's purpose that the people not be destroyed but saved! God chose not to rain down fire on the village, but to shower it with His Holy Spirit! I wonder what w

On Earth as it is in Heaven!

As believers, I know that we question the situations and culture that we find ourselves in during these times.  We wonder what has happened to our world and why are things happening as they are.  I also hear fellow brothers and sisters in Christ complaining that something should be done, but they themselves do not want to get involved. Lastly, why aren't the miracles and power of God not being manifest during our lifetime?  The answer my friends is that we have forgotten to Whom we belong and that the battle is always fought on our knees!  To many, this could be a passive way of stating that this is all that we can do, but I would like to say that we need a change of thinking and praying in order to start seeing the results that we so desperately desire!  I want us to really take a deep look at the Lord's Prayer: "In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.   Give us this

The Fruit of the Spirit!!

As one examines what the Scriptures teach about the fruits of the Spirit, you could be intimidated. "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law." Galatians 5:22-23. Working all nine of these traits into our life seems impossible, and it is. However, the moment we became Christians, the Holy Spirit began a divine work to produce Christ's character in us. Let me say this, regardless of who you are, the Spirit works from the same model, Jesus Christ. The Spirit looks to Christ in order to find the "blueprint" for your character. The Spirit will immedately begin helping you experience and practice this same love that Jesus had when He laid down His life for His friends. The same joy He experienced will be filled in you. The identical peace that guarded the heart of Jesus, even as He was being beaten and mocked, will be the peace that the Spirit
